The LPWS Island Barrel Build Kit ships with the hardest machine work done — hood fitted, bottom lugs cut, island rib matched to the Chiraq slide. So you're not setting up a machine shop. You're doing final hand-fitting and assembly, which needs a focused, affordable tool kit.

If you're starting from nothing, the seven essentials are the spend that matters. The recommended tools make the work faster and cleaner; the optional tools make it easier to do right the first time. None of it is shop-grade machinery.
These seven get you from kit to a fitted, function-tested build.
The anchor of the build — holds the slide and frame dead steady for lapping and filing. Padded jaws are non-negotiable; bare steel will mar parts you're about to pay to refinish. Used in nearly every fitting step.
For driving and seating pins during assembly — ejector, slide stop, and fire control all involve pin work. Get the right diameters for 1911/2011. Pairs with a bench block and non-marring hammer.
Final fitting means removing a tiny bit of material, checking, repeating — fine-cut files give that control. The rule: you can always remove more, never put it back. Used in slide-to-frame fitting.
The tool for the island rib cutout. Fine-grit compound blends the slide's cutout to the barrel rib for smooth, consistent contact. Apply, work the parts, clean, inspect, repeat. Clean all compound out before assembly — leftover grit is abrasive.
Hollow-ground bits sit flat in the slot so they don't cam out and chew screw heads — damage that's instantly visible on a finished build. For grip screws and small fasteners.
Dial or digital. Measure clearances and verify fit as you go — numbers, not guesses. Cheap insurance against removing too much in the wrong place.
Lubricate mating surfaces during fitting and function testing. A properly fitted, properly lubed build confirms everything cycles cleanly before you spend on a finish.
