01 — Custom 2011 Builds & Products 9 questions
What is a 2011 pistol?

A 2011 is a double-stack, high-capacity evolution of the classic 1911 platform. It retains the 1911's legendary trigger system and ergonomics but adds a wider grip frame to accommodate double-stack magazines — typically 18 to 29 rounds in 9mm.

The result is a pistol that combines match-grade trigger performance with significantly increased capacity — making it the platform of choice for competitive shooters, serious enthusiasts, and duty use.

What makes Legion Precision builds different from production 2011s?

Every LPWS 2011 is built by hand, to order. We do not mass-produce. Each pistol is hand-blended, individually tuned, and inspected before it leaves the shop.

We use premium components throughout — Infinity barrels, Cheely or Miller Precision grips, Red Dirt Blank triggers, Atlas magazines, and DLC or Cerakote finishes — selected for performance, not price point. The result is a custom-grade pistol at a competitive price compared to custom shop alternatives.

What variants and builds does LPWS offer?

Our current lineup includes complete custom 2011 pistol builds (including the IslandBoy series and Variant 7) and the Island Boy Build Kit for builders who want to complete their own build using pre-fitted LPWS components.

  • Complete builds — fully assembled, finished, and tested custom 2011 pistols ready for FFL transfer
  • Island Boy Kit — 9mm, 5" Government, pre-fitted island barrel and Chiraq slide kit for intermediate builders
  • Accessories — LPWS Kill Switch Trigger, Chiraq DS1911/2011 Metal Grip System, and more

Visit our Shop for our full current lineup.

What is the difference between Variant 7 and other LPWS variants?

Zero difference in quality or components. We do not compromise on parts or precision based on variant number. The Variant 7 features the same match-grade machining and high-performance components found across our entire lineup — same DNA, same reliability, same Legion Precision standard.

What is included in the Variant 7 base price of $3,999.98?

Everything you need for a match-ready build:

  • Slide: Your choice of Chiraq, Urban Warfare, or Savant design
  • Grip: Choice of Cheely, Miller Precision (Aluminum or Steel), or LPWS Metal Grip
  • Barrel: Ported or non-ported Bull Barrel
  • Performance parts: Tactical magwell and one (1) 18-round magazine
  • Optic ready: Atlas RMR/SRO Optic Plate with mounting hardware
  • Finish: Single-color Cerakote (with option for a different color on the grip)
  • Storage: Savior Equipment premium pistol soft case
Note: Optic is not included. This gives you flexibility to run your preferred glass. Optics can be purchased directly through LPWS at checkout or provided separately.
What caliber do LPWS 2011 pistols come in?

Current complete builds and the Island Boy Kit are offered in 9mm. Additional configurations available include the 4.25-inch Commander and the 4.6-inch Midlength. Contact us for current availability on all configurations.

If I purchase a red dot through LPWS, do you zero the optic?

No. While we ensure the optic is mounted and torqued to spec, a factory zero is not guaranteed. Every shooter's vision and mechanics are different — what looks centered to us may not be for you.

It is the customer's responsibility to confirm and fine-tune their zero before carrying for EDC or entering competition.

What magazines does LPWS recommend?

We recommend Atlas Premium 2011 magazines. They are purpose-built for the 2011 platform, consistently reliable, and our first choice for both function testing and long-term use.

Complete LPWS builds include one 18-round Atlas magazine. The IslandBoy Variant 11.0 includes one 18-round and one 29-round Atlas magazine.

If you need additional magazines beyond what is listed on a product, contact us directly — we are happy to accommodate.

02 — Island Boy Build Kit 7 questions
What is an island barrel and what makes it special?

An island barrel features a unique rib that locks into a matching channel in the slide, creating a tighter, more consistent barrel-to-slide fit than traditional barrel designs. The result is improved accuracy, more consistent lockup, and a distinctive aesthetic that sets island barrel builds apart.

Fitting an island barrel traditionally requires precision lathe work, specialized lug cutters ($150–$400 in tooling alone), hood fitting, and decking — most gunsmiths charge $400–$800+ in labor for this work alone. The LPWS Island Boy Kit solves this by doing the hardest machine work for you.

What exactly comes in the Island Boy Kit?

The kit includes everything you need to complete a 2011 build — minus the trigger and ignition components and grip module (available as separate LPWS add-ons):

Not included: Trigger group and grip module. These are intentionally left out so you can choose the components that fit your build — LPWS compatible add-ons are available separately.
What does "pre-fitted" mean — do I still need to do any fitting?

The hood length and bottom lugs are already fitted — the heavy machine work is done. What remains is final hand fitment, which is manageable with standard hand tools and the instructions we provide.

Specifically, the cutout for the island rib is undersized and must be lapped to the slide, and the slide is fitted close to the frame for you to finalize. You skip the lathe work entirely and go straight to final fitting.

Recommended experience level: Intermediate. If you have built or detail-stripped a 1911 before, you are well-prepared. If this is your first firearms build, watch 2011 assembly videos and take your time. Full instructions are included with your order.
What are the Island Boy Kit porting options?

All porting is done at the barrel — not the slide. Three configurations are available:

Pricing note: The porting prices below (+$65 and +$100) apply to the Island Boy Kit only. Porting for all other builds and customer-supplied barrels is priced separately — see the Barrel Porting product page for current pricing.
OptionPriceDescription
StandardIncludedNon-ported. Maximum reliability. Best for defensive use or shooters who prioritize zero point-of-failure.
Performance+$653-port configuration. Measurably flatter tracking and faster follow-up shots. The sweet spot for most shooters.
Extreme+$1006-port configuration. Maximum recoil mitigation. Built for competition and high round-count training. Tuning required.
⚠ Extreme 6-Port: This aggressive porting system requires you to tune your recoil spring weight and ammunition combination to ensure reliable function. Recommended for experienced builders comfortable diagnosing and tuning a 2011 platform. Reply to your order confirmation and Carl will personally help you assess before the kit ships.
What spring weight and ammunition do you recommend for the Extreme 6-port?

General tuning principles for the Extreme 6-port configuration:

  • Spring weight — heavier porting typically requires a heavier recoil spring to compensate for gas bleed. Start with standard weight and work up in 2lb increments until the gun cycles cleanly
  • Ammunition floor — underpowered or subsonic loads will not generate sufficient pressure to cycle reliably with aggressive porting. Run standard pressure or +P loads during function testing
  • Function test protocol — run a minimum of 100 rounds with your chosen spring and load combination before declaring the build finalized. Test for consistent feeding, extraction, and ejection
Spring Weight Add-On Available: LPWS offers recoil springs from 5# to 16# to help you tune the Extreme 6-port configuration. Springs are available at an additional cost — email legionprecision@gmail.com to request availability before placing your order.
Personal guidance available: Reply to your order confirmation email and Carl will talk through your specific setup personally — ammo, intended use, and experience level — before the kit ships.
Why does the Island Boy Kit ship without a finish?

The kit ships in a raw machined state intentionally — and here's why that's a feature, not a flaw:

  • You choose your finish — Cerakote, DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon), PVD, or black oxide. Each has different properties, aesthetics, and price points
  • You choose your colors — the Chiraq slide is a canvas. One build goes flat dark earth on OD green, another goes all-black DLC, another goes two-tone with burnt bronze
  • Finish after function testing — verify the build runs correctly before spending money on a finish. Fitting and testing first, finishing second is the right order of operations
Our recommendation: Work with a factory-certified Cerakote applicator for the best result. Contact us for recommended finishing shops in your area.
What is the Island Boy Kit pricing?
OptionPrice
Base Kit (Standard / Non-Ported)$1,778.12
Performance Option (3-Port)$1,843.12 (+$65)
Extreme Option (6-Port)$1,878.12 (+$100)

Spring Weight Add-On (5# – 16#)+$99.00 — email to request availability
Surface Finishing~$100–$400 (your choice, not included)
For comparison: Having a gunsmith source and fit an island barrel alone — without a complete kit — typically runs $400–$800 in labor before parts. The Island Boy Kit pre-fits the hardest work and includes all components needed to complete the build.
03 — Ordering & Payment 6 questions
What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Credit Cards and Debit Cards via Authorize.net. We do not accept trades as partial payments. All sales are final.

A $50.00 fee will be charged on any returned or bounced checks (local customers only).

What is your cancellation policy?
  • 2011 custom builds: 30% cancellation fee if the customer cancels after placing the order — NO EXCEPTIONS
  • Non-2011 items: 20% cancellation fee if cancelled before the listed lead time (effective 3/2/2021)
  • Island Boy Kit: 30% cancellation fee if cancelled after placing the order — no exceptions
Can I modify my order after it has been placed?

It depends on the stage of your build. We strive to ensure every customer gets exactly what they want and are willing to work with you on adjustments. However, we keep changes to a minimum once an order is in the system — frequent modifications increase the risk of errors and can delay your build.

If you need a change, contact us immediately at legionprecision@gmail.com and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Do you collect sales tax?

We are required to collect sales tax for Texas residents only. We are not required to collect sales tax for any other state. If you have questions, please Contact Us.

What address should I use for shipping on my order?

Please use your billing address as the shipping address — all purchases must ship to the billing address, no exceptions. We will never ship a firearm to a non-FFL holder.

In the Order Notes field at checkout, list the name and contact information of the FFL dealer you want to receive your firearm. We coordinate the professional transfer from there.

What if I want additional magazines or off-sheet customizations?

Absolutely — contact us directly. If you need additional magazines beyond what is listed on a product, or have a specific custom request for your build, reach out via email at legionprecision@gmail.com. We are happy to accommodate to ensure your kit is mission-ready the moment it arrives.

04 — Build Times & Lead Times 4 questions
How long does a custom 2011 pistol build take?

Build times vary by product:

  • Complete custom builds (IslandBoy series): 5–6 months estimated delivery
  • Variant 7: 6–12 months official window — we intentionally pad this to account for specialized finishing processes and aim to deliver ahead of schedule
  • Island Boy Kit: 60 days from order date to ship
  • In-stock accessories: Ships within 5–7 business days

We prefer to under-promise and over-deliver. If your order will be delayed beyond the stated lead time for any reason, we will contact you directly.

What affects the lead time on my build?

The biggest variable is your finish selection. Common finishes like Black DLC move quickly. Specialty coatings such as Rose Gold or CrN (Chromium Nitride) are processed in batches — because these colors are less common, they can extend the lead time significantly.

We coordinate with our coating partners months in advance to keep things moving. For the fastest turnaround, common colors are your best bet.

Still have questions about coating schedules? Email us at legionprecision@gmail.com for current timelines.
Will I receive updates on my build status?

You will receive shipping confirmation with tracking when your order ships. If your order will be delayed beyond the stated lead time for any reason, we will contact you directly.

You can also log into your account at legion-precisionweaponsystems.com/my-account/ and check the Order Notes on your order for progress updates. For additional status updates, email us at legionprecision@gmail.com — include your order number in the subject line.

Is the 6–12 month Variant 7 lead time accurate?

We prefer to under-promise and over-deliver. While 6–12 months is our official window, we intentionally pad this lead time to account for specialized coating and finishing processes. We prioritize perfection over speed — but our goal is always to get your build into your hands well ahead of schedule.

05 — FFL Transfer & Legal 5 questions
How does the FFL transfer process work?

Federal law requires all firearms — including serialized frames and complete builds — to be transferred through a licensed Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) dealer. Here is the step-by-step process:

  • Identify an FFL dealer near you before placing your order
  • Have your FFL dealer email a copy of their current license to legionprecision@gmail.com
  • Place your order and include your FFL dealer's name and contact info in the Order Notes
  • Once your build is complete, we ship directly to your FFL dealer
  • Your FFL dealer contacts you, you visit their location, complete ATF Form 4473, pass a NICS background check, and take possession of your firearm
Budget for transfer fees: Your FFL dealer typically charges $25–$50 for the transfer service. This is not included in your LPWS order total.
Can I legally buy a firearm online?

Yes — purchasing a firearm online is legal under federal law, provided you are a lawful purchaser and the firearm is transferred through a licensed FFL dealer in your state. You never take direct possession from an online retailer. All firearms sold through LPWS are transferred via FFL, in full compliance with federal law.

It is your responsibility to ensure that the firearm you are purchasing is legal in your state, county, and municipality before placing an order.

What is a straw purchase and why is it illegal?

A straw purchase is when someone buys a firearm on behalf of another person who is either prohibited from purchasing firearms or who wants to avoid the background check process. Straw purchasing is a federal felony under 18 U.S.C. § 922(a)(6).

All orders placed with LPWS must be for the actual purchaser. We reserve the right to cancel any order and report suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.

Who qualifies as a prohibited person?

Under federal law (18 U.S.C. § 922(g)), you are prohibited from purchasing or possessing firearms if you:

  • Have been convicted of a felony
  • Are under indictment for a felony
  • Are a fugitive from justice
  • Are an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance
  • Have been adjudicated as mentally defective or committed to a mental institution
  • Are an illegal alien
  • Have been dishonorably discharged from the military
  • Have renounced U.S. citizenship
  • Are subject to certain domestic violence restraining orders
  • Have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence

By placing an order, you certify that none of the above apply to you.

What happens if I cannot complete the background check or FFL transfer?

No refunds are given to buyers who cannot complete the transaction or if the firearm is not transferable. It is the buyer's sole responsibility to ensure they can legally purchase a firearm in their jurisdiction before placing an order.

If there is an issue with the transfer, contact us immediately at legionprecision@gmail.com with your order number.

06 — Shipping & State Restrictions 5 questions
What are your general shipping policies?
  • All purchases must ship to the billing address — no exceptions
  • Firearms ship to your FFL dealer — never to a residential address
  • Non-firearm accessories may ship directly to your address where legally permissible
  • In-stock items ship within 5–7 business days; custom builds ship per stated lead times
  • We do not ship internationally
Which states have restrictions on LPWS products?

LPWS does not sell to the following jurisdictions as noted:

  • California — no hi-cap mags, no ammunition (LEO exemptions may apply)
  • Maryland — LPWS 2011 IS on roster as of 7/28/2024; no hi-cap mags, no ammunition
  • Connecticut — no firearms, no hi-cap mags, no ammunition
  • Washington DC — no firearms, no hi-cap mags, no ammunition
  • New Jersey — no firearms, no hi-cap mags, no ammunition
  • New York — no hi-cap mags, no ammunition
  • Colorado — no hi-cap mags
  • Cook County, Illinois — no hi-cap mags, no ammunition
It is your responsibility to verify the laws of your state, county, and municipality before ordering. Contact us if you have questions.
Can I purchase and have a firearm ship to California?

Yes, but with conditions. Because our firearms are not currently on the California Roster of Certified Handguns, they can generally only be shipped to California for Law Enforcement Officers (LEO) or via specific legal exemptions such as the Single-Action Exemption.

Before ordering, you must confirm with your local FFL that they are willing and able to accept the transfer. Magazines will be blocked or swapped to 10-round capacity to comply with state law.

California residents — contact us before placing an order to verify your eligibility.
Is the LPWS 2011 on the Maryland Handgun Roster?
✓ Yes — as of July 28, 2024, the LPWS 2011 is an approved handgun on the Maryland State Police Handgun Roster and may be legally sold to Maryland residents through a licensed FFL dealer.

All standard requirements apply — background check, FFL transfer, and Maryland's waiting period. Hi-capacity magazines and ammunition remain restricted for Maryland buyers. Contact us at legionprecision@gmail.com to confirm current roster status before ordering.

What are the magazine capacity shipping restrictions by state?

Magazine capacity laws vary significantly by state. As a general guide:

  • 11+ round magazines cannot ship to: California, Connecticut, DC, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington
  • 16+ round magazines cannot ship to the above plus: Colorado, Illinois (Cook County), Vermont
  • 18+ round magazines cannot ship to the above plus: Delaware

This list is subject to change as state laws evolve. See our full Terms and Conditions for the complete restrictions table. It is your responsibility to verify local ordinances before ordering.

07 — Warranty & Returns 5 questions
What warranty do LPWS 2011 pistols carry?
Lifetime Warranty — transferable once. All LPWS 2011 pistols are warranted against manufacturing defects for the life of the firearm.
  • Ship the firearm back only after LPWS approves the return via email
  • Include your order number in the subject line and describe the issue in the email body
  • If the firearm is found to have no issue, return shipping costs are the customer's responsibility
  • Complete the FFL transfer before contacting us about warranty issues — warranty claims cannot be processed for firearms that have not been transferred
What warranty do non-2011 LPWS products carry?

Non-2011 LPWS products carry a 1-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects from date of purchase for private purchasers.

  • Original proof of purchase required
  • Prepaid shipping required (where applicable)
  • Return Verification Number must be obtained from LPWS Customer Service before returning
  • If a return is accepted, a 30% restocking fee applies

Non-LPWS products (guns and accessories from other manufacturers) carry their manufacturer's warranty only — not an LPWS warranty.

What voids the LPWS warranty?
  • Any customer modifications to the firearm
  • Unauthorized third-party repairs or modifications
  • Use of hand-loaded, reloaded, re-manufactured, or improper ammunition
  • Use of ammunition outside SAAMI specifications
  • Damage caused by negligence, improper storage, or failure to follow maintenance guidelines
  • Normal wear and tear or cosmetic damage
When in doubt, contact us first at legionprecision@gmail.com before sending anything in. We want to ensure your system is running perfectly and would rather handle solutions in-house.
What is your return policy?

Firearms: All firearm sales are final once transferred through an FFL dealer. We do not accept returns on firearms after the NICS background check has been completed and the transfer processed.

Accessories and non-firearm items: Returns must be initiated within 30 days of purchase, in original unused condition and original packaging. Contact us at legionprecision@gmail.com to request an RMA number before shipping anything back. Do not ship returns without an RMA.

Custom orders: Non-refundable.

Once a return is verified and approved, please allow 30–180 business days for a replacement to be processed.

How do I initiate a warranty claim or return?
  • Email legionprecision@gmail.com

09 — Island Barrel, Chiraq, Porting & Build Details 10 questions
What is an island barrel and why does it matter for accuracy on a 2011?

An island barrel replaces the standard barrel bushing with a precision-machined rib that fits directly into a matching channel in the slide. This eliminates the bushing variable entirely — the barrel locks up in the same position on every shot with no bushing-to-slide clearance introducing variability.

The result is tighter shot-to-shot consistency and measurably better accuracy at distance. LPWS fits every island barrel to its specific slide in-house before shipping. The barrel and slide are a verified matched pair — rib height, hood fit, and bottom lug clearance all confirmed to LPWS specification.

Fit tolerances: LPWS fits island barrels to 0.0001 to 0.0003 inch clearance on rib height and hood fit — tighter than production tolerances of 0.001 to 0.003 inch.
Can an island barrel be a drop-in fit on a 2011?

No. An island barrel must be hand-fitted to its specific slide. The rib-to-slide channel clearance of 0.0001 to 0.0003 inch is tighter than production slide tolerances — no two slides are dimensionally identical even from the same manufacturer. A barrel fitted to one slide will not drop into another slide at those clearances.

This is why the LPWS Island Barrel Build Kit ships as a matched barrel-and-slide pair. The hard fitting work is done before the kit leaves the shop.

Is the LPWS Chiraq slide compatible with the Atlas Gun Works Perfect Zero build kit?

Yes. The Chiraq machining service is designed specifically for the Atlas Gun Works Perfect Zero DS1911 slide. The process is straightforward:

  • Order the Perfect Zero build kit from Atlas Gun Works
  • Send the slide (non-serialized, ships directly) to LPWS
  • LPWS machines the Chiraq pattern, adds the Atlas optic cut, applies your selected finish
  • LPWS ships the completed slide back to you for assembly

Barrel porting can be added at the same time. The Chiraq + Barrel Porting bundle is $428.00 — the most popular service combination for Perfect Zero builders.

What is the difference between the Chiraq, Urban Warfare, and Savant slide machining patterns?
PatternStyleBest ForSlide Only Price
ChiraqAggressive — front, rear, and side cocking serrations with topside relief channelCompetition, open division, full custom builds$378.50
Urban WarfareTactical — angled cuts and side window lighteningDuty, carry, tactical builds$375.00
SavantClean — minimal front serrations, subtle topside reliefUnderstated competition or EDC$275.00
All three patterns include the Atlas optic cut with Atlas optic plate rail. The optic cut geometry is identical across all three — same plate system, same red dot compatibility.
What porting configurations does LPWS offer and what do they cost?

LPWS offers three barrel porting configurations. All porting is machined into the barrel only — not the slide:

Pricing note: The +$65 and +$100 porting prices below apply to the Island Boy Kit only. Porting for all other builds and customer-supplied barrels is priced separately — see the Barrel Porting product page for current pricing.
ConfigurationPriceNotes
Standard (non-ported)No chargeMaximum reliability. Best for defensive and duty use.
Performance 3-Port+$65Measurably flatter tracking and faster splits. The sweet spot for most competition shooters.
Extreme 6-Port+$100Maximum recoil mitigation. Requires recoil spring and ammunition tuning for reliable cycling.

Porting service for customer-supplied barrels is available at $299.99. Porting is machined after barrel fitting, so fit tolerances are not affected.

What is the lead time on the Islandboy Complete Build Kit and does it require an FFL transfer?

The Islandboy Complete Build Kit is built to order with a current lead time of 60 to 120 days. The kit includes a serialized DS1911 frame, which is legally a firearm under federal law.

The serialized frame must ship to a licensed FFL dealer in your state — it cannot ship directly to you. You complete a Form 4473 and NICS background check at your FFL before taking possession. All other kit components are non-serialized and ship directly.

FFL process: Have your FFL dealer email their license to legionprecision@gmail.com before your order ships. Budget $25–$50 for the transfer fee at your dealer.
What trigger shoe sizes does the LPWS Kill Switch F-Series trigger come in?

The Kill Switch F-Series trigger is available in short, medium, and long shoe lengths. The shoe length affects reach to the trigger face — the right choice depends on your hand size and grip style.

  • Short shoe — best for smaller hands or shooters who prefer to use the pad of the finger
  • Medium shoe — the most popular choice, suits most hand sizes
  • Long shoe — best for larger hands or shooters who prefer to use the first joint of the finger

The Kill Switch F-Series is designed for the 2011 and DS1911 platform with a crisp break and short reset. Current pricing is $84.98. Contact LPWS at legionprecision@gmail.com if you need guidance on sizing for your specific grip setup.

How does 2011 frame serialization work and what does it mean for ordering?

On a 2011 pistol, the serialized component is the frame — specifically the metal frame insert inside the polymer grip module. The frame insert bears the serial number and is the legally regulated firearm under federal law.

What this means for your order:

  • The serialized frame ships to your licensed FFL dealer — never directly to you
  • All other components — slide, barrel, small parts, grip module — are not serialized and ship directly
  • You complete ATF Form 4473 and a NICS background check at your FFL to take possession of the frame
  • Once transferred, you can complete the build yourself or have a gunsmith finish the assembly
Does the slide in the Chiraq Commander Builder Kit need to be fitted to the frame?
⚠ Important — Slide-to-Frame Fitting Required: The slide in the Chiraq Commander Builder Kit is not pre-fitted to a frame. Slide-to-frame fitting must be performed by a qualified gunsmith before the pistol can be safely assembled and fired.

This is a builder kit — not a drop-in assembly. The kit includes LPWS-fitted components (barrel, slide stop, ejector) but the slide-to-frame relationship requires professional gunsmith fitting for your specific frame.

LPWS recommends having all final fitting completed by an experienced 2011 pistolsmith. Contact us at legionprecision@gmail.com if you need a referral to a qualified builder in your area.

What finish options are available on LPWS builds and which lasts the longest?

LPWS offers three primary finish options depending on the build configuration:

FinishHardnessService LifeColor Options
DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon)70–90 HRC100,000+ roundsBlack only
CrN (Chrome Nitride)70–80 HRC75,000+ roundsSilver-gray
Cerakote9H pencil15,000–30,000 rounds200+ colors

DLC is standard on the Islandboy Variant 11.0 — the hardest and most durable finish available, applied at 1 to 4 microns thickness so it does not affect fit tolerances on precision-fitted components. CrN is available on the Islandboy Commander Variant 11.4. Cerakote is the right choice when color matters more than maximum service life.
